Why Michigan Football’s Aidan Hutchinson should be No. 1 pick
Final Thoughts
Overall, despite saying all of this, if I had to guess, whoever wins the #1 pick between the two will have had a dominant showing at the NFL combine, and/or the better of the two draft interviews (because those things are like The Bible to scouts and executives and seem to mean absolutely everything for draft positioning).
I will say this also: Kayvon does have a slight edge in positional versatility. He is a linebacker that can rush the passer. That might be a little more valuable to scouts and executives in their eyes than just a pure pass rusher like Aidan, but Aidan has everything else going for him that I mentioned.
Kayvon has a better get-off and a few more pass-rushing moves than Aidan, but Aidan is stronger, is better at stopping the run, and is quick to diagnose plays and blow them up. He can also cover a little bit and has long arms.
It’ll be interesting to see who ends up being the #1 pick, as the Jags could go in any direction, to be honest. One thing is for sure though: Aidan Hutchinson is the most deserving of being the #1 pick.
Kayvon is a stud too, and he will be a future star himself one day, and might even have the higher ceiling of the two, but Aidan just does the little things better and is a natural leader with a relentless motor.
People are capping Aidan’s ceiling for some reason, thinking that his potential might have already been reached, meanwhile not for Kayvon.
Just because Hutchinson is a senior and it took him this long to break out does not mean that he has capped his potential. If he wouldn’t have been held as much last year, a 20+ sack season was in the books for him at Michigan.
Is a 20-sack season really a capped season? A “poor man’s Nick Bosa”. All of these insults for a 20+ sack season? That logic makes no sense to me.
By the way, before Oregon fans come screaming in the comments section, this isn’t a Kayvon-hater article. It’s just a pro-Aidan article. I actually really like Kayvon Thibodeaux, just not quite as much as Aidan Hutchinson.
You really can’t go wrong with either of these two players. I just think Aidan is the type of player you want in the locker room more, as he’s a great foundational stud to build around. If he doesn’t end up being #1 (would be the first #1 pick from Michigan since Jake Long in 2008) that’s okay too.
It’s not a big deal. He’d still most likely be the highest-drafted pick from Michigan football since ’08 and that would be a great consolation prize for Michigan fans.
