Michigan football is still in contention for one of the best players in the country that’s left uncommitted. Could U-M land Josh Conerly Jr.?

Michigan’s recruiting class has undoubtedly been one of the best classes to date for the Wolverines. After a few lackluster classes, the Wolverines really stepped it up this year boasting the 9th best-recruiting class in the country.

Before Michigan football had beaten Ohio State or won the Big Ten Championship, the recruiting class looked very underwhelming but had a lot of potential targets on the horizon.

Those targets came through and Michigan football soared up the ranks landing critical late addition pieces like Keon Sabb and Darrius Clemons.

However, this is not exactly the end of the road for the Wolverines this recruiting class. The 3rd best offensive tackle and ranked 23rd nationally, Josh Conerly Jr. has a serious interest in the Wolverines. Conerly is so highly touted he’d rank 14th amongst Michigan recruit’s composite rankings, not this year, all time.

Josh Conerly Jr. has made it abundantly clear throughout the whole process that he’s been interested in Michigan. The #1 overall player in Washington took an official visit to Michigan in September during the Washington Huskies game. He’s not taken any other official visits, the only unofficial visit he took was in 2019 to Oregon.

Currently, Josh Conerly Jr. has his schools narrowed down to 6 publically. Washington, Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon, USC, and Miami are amongst the teams that make the cut. However, according to experts on 247, he’s crystal balled 50/50 to Michigan & Washington.

With Oregon losing Mario Cristobal and Oklahoma being in a state of distress, I feel as if we can safely eliminate those two teams from serious contention. There has been no momentum for any team besides Michigan and Washington so it may be safe to say USC and Miami are not in contention for Conerly Jr. either.

Conerly Jr. is set to make his decision close to the February 2nd signing day. We may see his list narrowed once more between now and then, but it’s foggy right now where everyone stands.

Michigan is in a good position to land him from what we can tell so far, but it could truly go any way quickly like the Domani Jackson commitment.

Next. 4 possible candidates if Harbaugh leaves. dark

Michigan’s recruiting class would jump from 258.53 to 268.55 team ranking according to 247sports. That’d put Michigan officially at the 8th ranked spot and would be the 1st time since 2019 that Michigan has landed multiple 5-Star’s in the same season.
