Michigan football got its new 2022 schedule on Wednesday and here are three thoughts on what the Wolverines will face next season.

On Wednesday, the Big Ten Conference announced revised schedules for 2022 and we finally know what Michigan football’s 12-game slate will look like next season.

The Wolverines had a very challenging schedule in 2021 that included road trips to Penn State, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin, as well as a home game against Ohio State.

Michigan football also hosted Washington in what was expected to be a top-25 matchup but the Huskies fell off last season and it proved to be an easy win for U-M.

The non-conference portion of the schedule is easier in 2022 as there isn’t a Power-5 opponent on the docket and all in all, the schedule seems pretty favorable.

With that in mind, here are three thoughts on the 2022 schedule for Michigan football.

It’s pretty manageable

The Wolverines open with home games against Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn before hosting Maryland. That’s not an overly challenging start, especially considering the way the Wolverines have dominated Maryland in the Jim Harbaugh era.

We have learned over the years that no game early in the season is a guaranteed win but Michigan didn’t schedule any service academies and shouldn’t be challenged until October.

The Wolverines will also play just four road games. In 2021, Michigan had four home games and five on the road in Big Ten play. Next year, it will be the exact opposite and that means Nebraska, Michigan State, and Penn State will come to Ann Arbor.

Michigan also avoids Wisconsin, Purdue, and Minnesota in the Big Ten West.
