1. Edge rusher

With the departures of Hutchinson and Ojabo, as well as their 25 combined sacks in 2021, the pass rush is the biggest area of need for Michigan football heading into 2022.

The hope is that guys currently on the roster such as Jaylen Harrell, Taylor Upshaw, Braiden McGregor, TJ Guy and others can help fill the void.

But asking those guys to come anywhere close to matching the production of Hutchinson and Ojabo is just unrealistic. Michigan has pass rushers but it needs more. Even if the guy doesn’t fit into an ideal position, as long as he can win on the edge.

Four-star signee and recent Under Armour All-American Game MVP Derrick Moore could offer some early contributions. He’s regarded as one of the best edge prospects in the 2022 class, however some view him as a tweener too.

Frankly, I don’t care about position. I don’t care if the guy is a three-technique, a five-technique or a true outside linebacker. As long as he can pressure the QB, that’s all that matters.

And that’s the same thought process Michigan should have in the portal. It has dudes who can play outside linebacker and every position on this defense. But it lacks difference makers and Michigan should do everything possible to add an impact pass rusher for 2022.
