3 takeaways from Michigan Basketball’s loss to Rutgers
Michigan only has Hunter Dickinson and he’s flawed
Hunter Dickinson was exceptional on the offensive end of the floor for Michigan. He was 10-of-15 from the field and dished out two assists. But his defense was porous and so was his rebounding.
On the offensive end though, Dickinson is the only thing Michigan can count on. Houstan is supposed to be one of the best shooters in the country but lacks confidence.
Maybe he will find it, but the Wolverines have been waiting on it all year and outside of a few games, he hasn’t delivered. Eli Brooks just isn’t a primary scorer and the fact that he’s essentially the second-most productive scorer for Michigan basketball is worrisome.
DeVantes Jones is a bust. He has zero points Tuesday and played just 31 minutes when Michigan had one healthy guy on the bench. If that doesn’t scream for Frankie Collins to get more minutes, I don’t know what does.
The offense isn’t bad. But Dickinson had the worst defensive rating of any starter and grabbing five rebounds is borderline pathetic. He also was nowhere to be found in the first 4-5 minutes of the game and didn’t show up till Rutgers was in control.
Michigan needs more from Dickinson right now and every other player on the roster.
