Michigan got dominated in the trenches

To put it simply, Michigan’s running game was pretty much non-existent. Michigan’s offensive line and tight ends needed to show up big-time for Michigan to have a chance.
Unfortunately, this did not happen at all.

We talked at length about how big Georgia’s defensive line was. It was going to be a huge challenge to move those mammoths in the middle of the defense, and block the speedy linebackers.

Well, none of this happened. No matter what Michigan tried, whether it be inside rushing schemes, zone schemes, or outside schemes, nothing worked. Georgia’s linebackers constantly came up and met the ball carrier for little to no gain.

Georgia’s defensive line was just too big and Georgia’s linebackers were just too aggressive and too fast. You could tell on the sideline when it panned to Michigan’s offensive line that they were having a hard time adjusting to Georgia’s physicality.

And when Michigan couldn’t even get decent production from the running game, Georgia just took away all of Michigan’s other simple routes and the offense stalled. Sacks were given up on passing plays because they were obvious passing plays, and Georgia constantly sent linebacker blitzes on third downs.
