Michigan Football: Orange bowl preview with a Georgia expert
By Nick Popio
Georgia’s offense
After some background, here’s what Leigh thinks, in her expert opinion, about the Bulldogs taking on Michigan football’s defense:
“This Georgia team is a talented one full of selfless individuals. Full of rough and tumble players who love their school and playing the sport. Michigan reminds me a lot of this Georgia squad and I mean that in a good way.
On the offensive side of the ball, Brock Bowers and George Pickens are two familiar names for Michigan fans to get accustomed to, along with Zamir White and James Cook. Still, I like to mention Darnell Washington because he is such a mismatch no matter who covers him. At 6-7, 265-pounds he should be a linebacker or defensive end, but instead, he’s out there playing tight end and thriving at it.
The Dawgs are usually a run-first kind of offense, but this season Georgia has aired it out a bit more to accommodate the ample amount of receiving standouts. The offensive line has been strong while only giving up the fewest amount of sacks in the SEC at nine, but the run blocking isn’t as good, so the Dawgs turned to throwing the ball more often.
When Bowers and starting quarterback Stetson Bennett are in sync, the Mailman isn’t afraid to launch it deep and find his primary targets, mainly Bowers. He has a few deep weapons and the Dawgs can make some explosive plays as Bowers has at least three 50+ yard touchdowns, so even though Bennett is a former walk-on and people still doubt him, he can make it happen.”
