J.J. McCarthy makes a splash

The Orange Bowl is the biggest game of the season at this point and it might seem like a strange time to increase McCarthy’s snap count, but that’s exactly what I expect to happen Friday.

One big reason for that is McCarthy’s running ability. Of all the quarterbacks expected to play, he’s the most athletic and the closest thing to a true dual-threat. And against Georgia’s stout front, the Wolverines will utilize that skillset.

Quarterback runs allow the offense to have an extra blocker and I believe we’ll see McCarthy taking more snaps than ever and run the ball more than ever against UGA.

Cade is still going to take the majority of the snaps. But I see McCarthy coming in more on early downs for running situations. Even against Wisconsin, the QB runs with McCarthy worked and teams have had success with them against Georgia too.

So don’t be shocked to see McCarthy get a season-high in rushing attempts. But also, Michigan football will use his arm too, and whether on the ground or the air, McCarthy will account for at least one touchdown in the Orange Bowl.

And he’s got the ability to be the true X-factor Friday night.
