Michigan football landed an All-American center in the transfer portal and we break down the impact of Victor Oluwatimi.
The Michigan football team received some good news Monday getting a commitment from Virginia Cavaliers center Victor Oluwatimi out of the transfer portal.
The Wolverines beat out the Clemson Tigers and a return to the Virginia Cavaliers, where new head coach Tony Elliott made retaining him a top priority.
Oluwatimi currently ranks as the thirteenth-best player in the transfer portal, according to the rankings at 247Sports. He played his high school football at Maryland powerhouse DeMatha Catholic, originally committing to the Air Force Academy before transferring to Virginia in 2017.
At Virginia, Oluwatimi stepped into the lineup quickly, starting 13 games in 2019, 10 games in 2020, and 12 games for the Cavaliers in 2021. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Rimington Award, given annually to the nation’s top center.
He received a handful of additional awards as well, notably Second-Team All-ACC accolades behind Boston College center Alec Lindstrom. Oluwatimi entered the transfer portal on December 6th, shortly after the news that Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall was stepping down.
So what is Michigan football getting in its newest offensive line commitment? Here is a brief look at his strengths, weaknesses, and projection for the 2022 season.
To get a look at this, I watched the film of his games against Miami (FL), Illinois, and North Carolina from this past season. The Cavaliers won the games against Illinois and Miami (FL) but lost to North Carolina in a shootout.
