Michigan Football vs Georgia: Odds and Prediction for 2021 Orange Bowl
We are now five days away from the 2021 Orange Bowl and here are the odds as well as an early prediction for Michigan football vs Georgia.
It can be hard to keep track of time during the holidays and bowl season. But for all intents and purposes, it’s now game week for Michigan football.
The Wolverines arrived in Miami for their Orange Bowl preparation, declining the option to arrive on Dec. 29 and the team looks loose and ready to play in the College Football Playoff.
The opponent is Georgia and the Bulldogs have had a few issues with players being in the COVID-19 protocol and it remains to be seen how that could impact UGA on Friday.
Hopefully, both teams will be healthy and close to full strength. No one wants to see either team without a top player or even worse, either team having to forfeit.
But we’ll stay positive and hope we get to see two healthy football teams Friday night in Miami in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Here’s a breakdown of the odds, as well as an early prediction.
Odds for Michigan football and Georgia in 2021 Orange Bowl
The line has been pretty stagnant since it opened and it hasn’t changed much. Georgia, which was the No. 1 team for most of the year, is still viewed very favorably by the experts and the Bulldogs are a 7-point favorite going into Friday’s Orange Bowl according to WynnBet’s odds.
The over/under for the Orange Bowl is 44.5, while the money line for Georgia is -300 and +225 for Michigan football.
Prediction for Michigan football vs Georgia in 2021 Orange Bowl
The Wolverines have been really good against the spread all season long, going down just twice to Rutgers and Michigan State.
Michigan football and Georgia feel very similar. Each team has a great defense and a player worthy of Heisman consideration in the front seven. If there is a weakness with either defense, it tends to be in the secondary.
Georgia struggled to defend Alabama and while Cade McNamara and Michigan football don’t get much credit for throwing the football, McNamara is more than capable. So are J.J. McCarthy and the Wolverines wide receivers — especially Andrel Anthony.
But the real question is can either quarterback survive without a running game? Stetson Bennett struggled to carry the load against Bama and if the Wolverines can force him into unfavorable down-and-distance, Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo can tee off.
It worked against Ohio State and if Michigan can slow down the Georgia running game, it will work even better against the Bulldogs. Bennett is talented, but he can’t make the throws or some of the plays C.J. Stroud did to keep Ohio State in the game.
Yet, Brock Bowers and Georgia’s tight ends are a big worry. Michigan football has struggled covering the tight end all year and Bowers is an absolute freak.
Bowers will have a big day and Bennett will throw for well over 200 yards. But he’ll throw an interception or two as well. McNamara won’t and Michigan, as crazy as it sounds, will find a way to win on a late Jake Moody field goal 23-20.
