Michigan Basketball: Weeks Five and Six in Review for the Wolverines
Freshman of the Week
Freshman forward Caleb Houstan receives his third Freshman of the Week this season.
Honestly, this week’s award may have gone to Moussa Diabate had he played in the Nebraska game because he had two really well-rounded games where he averaged 7.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and one block per game.
However, Houstan had an impressive stat-line as well, averaging 11 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and one steal per game.
The freshman from Canada shot an outstanding 5-for-12 from 3-point range (41.7%), continuing what has been a solid shooting season over his first 11 games.
At times this season Houstan has been too reliant on the 3-point shot to make an impact in the Michigan offense, but he showed an improving ability to score from two and get to the free throw line over these three games.
The Wolverines will need that dual-threat ability from the wing as defenses key in on Michigan’s offensive tendencies as the season progresses.
Houstan’s game has some growing to do, but he is more consistently showing 5-star level flashes — a welcomed development for the Wolverines.
