Michigan football isn’t overly active in the transfer portal but the Wolverines are pushing hard for Victor Oluwatimi, an All-American center.

Players want to play for Michigan football and head coach Jim Harbaugh right now and after the best season for the Wolverines in nearly two decades, U-M is recruiting at a high level.

Michigan football just wrapped up the No. 9 class in the 2022 cycle, at least after 2021 Early Signing Day, but the Wolverines aren’t done and that isn’t just a reference to the 2022 late-signing period, although five-star Josh Conerly Jr. is still a big target.

The Wolverines are solidly in the mix and are his crystal ball leader, but Michigan football is also after one of the top transfers in 2022 and that’s Virginia All-American center Victor Oluwatimi.

What Oluwatimi would bring to Michigan

Oluwatimi wasn’t a highly-ranked recruit but Andrew Vastardis, Michigan’s current center, was a walk-on and he’s about to walk into an NFL contract this spring. But Oluwatimi is so wanted that Dabo Swinney, who isn’t a fan of the transfer portal, is all over him.

Tony Elliot, who was formerly the Clemson offensive coordinator and is now the head coach at Virginia, is also working to keep Oluwatimi who is playing with the Cavaliers during their bowl game.

Oluwatimi entered the portal over a week ago but is sticking with his team through the postseason and that allows the home squad to change his mind.

Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider put in a transfer portal crystal ball earlier this week and that’s two now that are projecting Oluwatimi to Michigan football.

It makes sense. The Wolverines are going to have one of the best offensive lines in the country next season, even with a new starting center and Oluwatimi could be the missing piece. It would also allow Zak Zinter to stay at guard instead of possibly moving to center.

Webb and a Virginia insider made the prediction and that was when Oluwatimi was expected to announce on Friday, a decision he delayed.

We’ll see if Webb’s crystal ball proves to be true, but if so, it would be a major addition for the Wolverines.
