Matt Weiss

As you can see, Michigan football already has quality candidates on staff to replace Gattis if needed and one name that shouldn’t be overlooked is that of Matt Weiss.

Weiss coached quarterbacks this season for Michigan, but has also coached running backs and has an NFL background with the Ravens.

He’s an extremely bright guy and you can see his influence in the running game this year. Of course, you have to be careful with the staff dynamics but here’s how I think it could work.

Weiss could be promoted to the co-offensive coordinator job with Sherrone Moore. One of those two guys could call the plays, and if Weiss did, the coaching staff could be very similar on offense to last season.

Moore could keep his focus on the offensive line and he can essentially continue to be the run-game coordinator. Weiss can give up quarterbacks (Guess who can coach them?) and that will open up another staff position for a wide receivers coach since Gattis coached them too.

Harbaugh could also promote Hart to assistant head coach and give him a fat raise. The same can be said for Moore and Weiss. Either way, all three of those guys need to be back.

Michigan could always elect to bring in an offensive coordinator from outside the current staff, and then keep the other guys in their positions with a raise. If it was the right guy that could work too.

But there are some great in-house options if a replacement is needed.
