Michigan football dominated Iowa Saturday in the Big Ten championship, silencing the critics of the Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh.

There were times when it felt like the wait for Michigan football to win a Big Ten championship might last forever. But on Saturday night, Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines silenced their critics and crowned themselves Big Ten champions after punking Iowa 42-3.

It capped an incredible run for Michigan football — a run that will continue in the College Football Playoff — but for now, let’s just soak in the fact that the Wolverines are champions.

How did they do it? It was typical Michigan football in 2021. They simply beat the brains out of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Give credit to Kirk Ferentz and his crew. They battled for a half and kept things competitive. But when Michigan football stuffed the Hawkeyes on fourth down late in the third quarter, it was all she wrote.

The rest was just window dressing, except in some ways, it wasn’t.

But in a very similar fashion to a week ago, the defense kept getting stops and the offense kept scoring. My favorite sequence came with the Wolverines up 21-3.

Following a three-and-out, the special teams blocked a punt and the offense finished it off with Hassan Haskins record-breaking touchdown run. Both quarterbacks made big plays on the drive and Haskins finished it.

Classic Michigan.

It was 28-3 at that point, but Michigan still wasn’t done. As if the Wolverines needed another exclamation point, they added to two more scores to give the committee a 39-point win to think about, thanks to a defense that pitched a shutout in the final three quarters.

As the tears flow, here are my gut reactions.
