Michigan Football: Your rooting guide for championship week
Big Ten Championship: (2) Michigan vs. (15) Iowa, Saturday, December 4th, 8:00 p.m. EST, Fox
After the Cincinnati game concludes, we get a few hours to relax (or get more nervous) waiting for the Michigan game to start. It is a nightcap, so it is one of the last games of the day. We as fans have waited 10 years for a chance to go to the Big Ten Championship game for football, so what’s a little bit more time?
Michigan football has everything in front of them. Win this game, and they are in the playoffs for the very first time. It shouldn’t matter how the game goes, as long as Michigan wins in the end.
The boys don’t seem to have an OSU hangover, so they should be ready to roll on Saturday. This is also the chance for Aidan Hutchinson to raise his odds of winning the Heisman. Leave it all on the line here in Indy.
I expect him to have another big game. While Iowa’s defense is legit, I just can’t see their offense being able to sustain many drives on Saturday. Michigan should win this game comfortably and make the playoff.
ACC Championship: (17) Pittsburgh vs. (18) Wake Forest, Saturday, December 4th, 8:00 p.m. EST, ABC
This game is on at the same time as the Michigan game. It has no impact on Michigan or the college football playoff.
Obviously, the majority of Michigan fans will be tuned into our game against Iowa, but fans (if they’re watching at home) can still flip back and forth between Fox (the Big Ten game) and ABC (the ACC game). This game does have a lot of intrigues.
Pittsburgh’s QB Kenny Pickett is a projected first-round pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. This is his chance to put on a showcase for scouts in a high-stakes game. Personally, he is my favorite draft-eligible QB.
Wake Forest also has a QB that has gotten some NFL Draft love in Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman. He’s a projected Day 2 or Day 3 pick if he enters his name into the NFL Draft.
This game should be high-scoring and should be a tight game. It will probably come down to the wire. Both teams have been playing well even with two losses. A play or two goes their way here or there, and both teams would still be in the conversation for a playoff spot.
