What to expect from Saturdays Big Ten Championship Game

The stakes this Saturday for Michigan are unexplainably high.

Michigan football has never been to a Big Ten Championship game (introduced in 2011) and has not won the conference since 2004. The Wolverines must put their money where their mouth is for a program that claims superiority and beat Iowa this Saturday.

For the Hawkeyes, the game has a similar stigma.

Iowa has also not won the conference since 2004 and lost its first championship game appearance to Michigan State in 2015. Though Iowa comes in underdogs, the Hawkeyes will bring their best game to the table against the Wolverines.

If Michigan wins, the Wolverines will not only snap their 17-season conference title drought but also secure their spot in the College Football Playoff. In a program-defining game, Michigan will need to stay focused and take the season one game at a time.

Authors prediction

The stakes have never been higher for Michigan football under Jim Harbaugh. The Wolverines finally got over the hump and beat Ohio State; now it’s time to break through the glass ceiling and win the conference.
