Jim Harbaugh can coach

Keeping Jim Harbaugh as the Michigan football coach was the right choice and he’s proven a lot of people wrong this season.

If Michigan loses next week, many will return to the same tired narrative that he can’t get it done. At some point, he will have to beat Ohio State. But this is also Ohio State on steroids and HGH.

Harbaugh revamped his coaching staff and he rediscovered himself. This Michigan team looks like his teams with the 49ers and Stanford that won a lot of games.

With the win over Maryland, the Wolverines clinched their fourth 10-win season under Harbaugh and while he’s been the coach for seven years, 2020 was shortened to six games, so in six full seasons, he’s won 10 games four times and never less than eight.

People are right to say Michigan hasn’t won any championships under Harbaugh. But it’s wrong to say the Wolverines haven’t been a contender.

This is the third time since 2016 that Michigan has entered the Ohio State game ranked in the top five of the College Football Playoff rankings with a chance to win the Big Ten East with a win.

That’s contending and it’s actually pretty amazing to think about how quickly he got Michigan back to its historical levels after the worst seven-year run in the modern era.

Just for once, appreciate what the man has done. He brought Michigan back from the brink and turned it into a winner.

The Wolverines haven’t reached the mountain top. But they will attempt the climb again next Saturday and thanks to Harbaugh, the peak is within reach.
