5. Maryland struggles defensively

While Cross is second on the team in tackles, defensive back Jordan Mosley leads the team with 66 tackles.

It is never a good sign when two defensive backs are a team’s leading tacklers. Maryland has struggled in most areas defensively.

The Terrapins are 102nd in points allowed at 31.4 points per game. Against Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan State, and Penn State, Maryland has allowed 47 points per game.

Maryland has particularly struggled to defend the pass. The Terrapins are 105th in passing yards allowed and 108th in passing play explosiveness allowed. Maryland has done slightly better against the run. It ranks 89th in rushing success rate allowed and 71st in rushing yards allowed per game.

Michigan has not taken advantage of the bad defenses in the Big Ten as much as one would expect.
