Michigan Basketball vs Seton Hall: Predictions, Odds, TV Channel and Live Stream
Michigan basketball faces its first big test of the 2021-22 season as Seton Hall comes to ann Arbor Tuesday night for the Gavitt Games.
The Michigan basketball team opened its season last week and while the Wolverines had some good moments and some not-so-great moments, they are 2-0.
Michigan did play a solid Buffalo team that’s expected to win the MAC or is at least picked to by the coaches in the preseason poll. But Seton Hall, the team that will come to Crisler Center on Tuesday night is a different animal.
The Pirates are 2-0 and ranked 35th according to KenPom as well as 20th when it comes to adjusted defense. Michigan ranks 2nd overall in those rankings, with the fifth-rated offense and the second-rated defense.
Michigan is the favorite and we’ll break down the odds in a moment, but this shouldn’t be a walk to victory. Seton Hall has numerous top-100 recruits on its roster and it also has size.
This will be a good early-season test and here’s a look at the odds, plus a prediction and how to watch and stream.
Michigan basketball vs Seton Hall Odds and Prediction
According to WynnBET, Michigan basketball is a 7.5-point favorite tonight against Seton Hall. The over/under is set at 138.5.
It’s going to be a challenge for Michigan and a huge part of the game will be scoring inside with Hunter Dickinson. However, that could be a challenge with a 7-foot-2 big man and elite shot-blocker in Ike Obiagu who has averaged four blocks a game this season albeit in just two games.
Unlike most teams Michigan will face, Seton Hall isn’t going to have double team Dickinson down the floor every time. Generally, that leads to open looks for his teammates but tonight, Dickinson is going to have to win that one-on-one matchup.
Seton Hall is long and athletic and it will challenge the Wolverine defense. One thing Michigan doesn’t have on defense is a guy like Franz Wagner is can put on any elite offensive wing.
Eli Brooks is a great defender but he’s not in the 6-foot-5 range. Jared Rhoden is a name to watch for the Pirates on the wing and averaged 15 points a game last year.
Kadary Richmond is a transfer from Syracuse and will be another key player to watch. He will handle the ball a lot and try to create for the Pirates by attacking the bucket.
Defense and inside scoring should be the name of the game for Michigan. Getting some open looks for Caleb Houstan will be important too. Brandon Johns could use a better performance.
He has been up and down this season but this is his kind of game. It’s going to be physical and the Wolverines will need his toughness. It’s also a big night for Moussa Diabate and transfer point guard DeVante Jones. Their toughness will be needed on both ends of the floor.
It’s going to be a fun first test and while I think Michigan wins, I see a closer game than expected as the Wolverines win 68-62.
