Michigan Basketball: Gut reactions from loss to Seton Hall
Michigan basketball struggled to score and the Wolverines were defeated on their home floor by Seton Hall on Tuesday night.
Michigan basketball didn’t look like the No. 4 team in the country and after a bad loss to Seton Hall on Tuesday, the Wolverines won’t be ranked that high much longer.
And after a 67-65 loss there are some serious questions about this team. Caleb Houstan, Moussa Diabate, and DeVante Jones didn’t look ready for the type of game they will see in Big Ten play.
Sure it was likely just an off night. I don’t expect Houstan to shoot as poorly as he did Tuesday night but it was stunning how poorly the entire team shot the ball, really outside of Eli Brooks and Hunter Dickinson.
Michigan was a 7.5-point favorite and while I didn’t pick U-M to cover the spread, I didn’t think the Wolverines would lose on their home floor.
Here are some gut reactions.
Michigan basketball gut reactions from Seton Hall
- Zeb Jackson or Frankie Collins better be ready to play sometime this year.
- DeVante Jones isn’t playing like a Big Ten point guard.
- Brandon Johns isn’t coming close to what Michigan needs from him.
- Eli Brooks was incredible but had to take too many shots.
- Hunter Dickinson needed more touches — Seton Hall did a good job of denying him.
- Terrance Williams is a warrior but his shot is still inconsistent.
- This is a young team and it has a lot of room to grow.
- It’s not a top-10 team right now.
- That being said, one bad game is one bad game.
- We’ll learn much more this weekend in Las Vegas.
- Fouls and turnovers are an issue.
- Moussa can be spectacular but is also limited.
- Michigan basketball lost an 11-point lead.
- It’s clear more shooting is needed.
- No need to panic yet.
- Go Blue.
