Despite the win, the Wolverines must improve

Michigan’s win over Penn State is bitter sweet. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 9-1 heading into Maryland next weekend. Though the defense and run game were both extraordinary on Saturday, Michigan’s offensive struggles and sloppy mistakes scare many seeing as the Buckeyes come to town in less then two weeks.

The bright spot for Michigan football this weekend was the defensive line. Michigan managed seven sacks on the game, three from senior edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and two from junior edge rusher David Ojabo. Both Hutchinson and Ojabo are projected first round picks in this year’s draft, and proved why against Penn State. Along with an impressive series of sacks, the Wolverine defense also recorded 12 tackles for loss.

On offense, Cade McNamara once again had a solid performance, throwing for 217 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Along with Cade’s solid passing performance, star running back Hassan Haskins picked up many key first downs on his way to 156 rushing yards, his fourth 100+ yard game this season.

Going forward, the Michigan offense needs to find its stride much sooner in the ball game and deliver in key moments such as third and fourth down offense, and inside the red zone. Nonetheless, Michigan’s season is still alive and well as they look to win out in their final two games in what could be a very special season of Wolverine football.
