Michigan’s championship aspirations are alive and well

With this triumph the Wolverines remain in the mix for the Big Ten East crown. They keep pace with Ohio State and Michigan State who collide in Columbus next Saturday at high noon. That is essentially an elimination matchup for Michigan State if they lose, but they could make it a three-way race if the Spartans somehow come up with a rare road victory in the horseshoe.

All the eyes of the college football world will be on this showdown. If Ohio State wins then it will presumably set up the country’s nastiest rivalry for all the marbles in Ann Arbor on Thanksgiving weekend. That and taking care of Maryland will certainly be on the minds of everyone who is involved with the Michigan football program to make the annual confrontation worth it all or nothing in the Big House in two weeks.

Michigan football gets Maryland in College Park and should be an overwhelming favorite there. However, having “the game” mean something like that following a year that they didn’t square-off against each other because of covid means the world to such a widely popular sport.

Even the Hollywood film makers around the globe couldn’t have scripted a better ending to an always welcomed scene if it happens.
