October 2nd, Wisconsin Badgers

Easily Michigan’s best performance and win of the season came against the Badgers in early October. Before the season starter, expectations were very high for Wisconsin and this was a game people commonly x’ed off for Michigan and threw it in the loss column, but boy did the Wolverines lay a beating in Madison.

The Wolverines offensively controlled the game with McNamara being almost as efficient as possible slinging two TD passes. Defensively, Michigan came up with monumental turnovers in the second half to put the game out of reach. Wisconsin only managed to get 43 yards rushing and threw just a bit over 100 yards in the air. Since this game, Wisconsin has done an absolute 180 on their season.

Wisconsin has won their last 5 games in convincing fashion including wins against #9 Iowa and a win against #25 Purdue, in Purdue. Don’t be mistaken either, Wisconsin dominated these games and added two ranked wins to their resume. They currently sit 18th in the country and have a very easy schedule coming up against Northwestern, Nebraska, and Minnesota. By year’s end, Wisconsin very well could be ranked amongst the top 10, but more likely just outside.

Winning in Madison while Wisconsin has a good season writes off any flukes about our victory and builds our resume which is important for teams faced in the front half of the year because those wins, and how those teams shape could play a detrimental role in deciding where Michigan should be ranked in the coming weeks.
