2. How will DeVante’ Jones differ from Mike Smith?

The Wolverines have a new transfer point guard to manage the offense in Coastal Carolina transfer Devante’ Jones.

Jones is almost a completely different type of player than Mike Smith. DeVante is not afraid of contact, he’s a tough dude that is willing to get into the trenches for Michigan to create plays and open up space.

Friday he boasted 10 points shooting 3/6 from the field in 27 minutes of play. Those numbers do not seem too impressive at first glance, but his off-ball performance was impeccable. He playing some tough defense against a respectable Wayne State team grabbing four defensive boards, snatching three steals, and a block.

As it usually is for everyone, he forced four unnecessary turnovers but that’s what you see when you’re playing in your first game with a brand new team. Granted, he’s had all offseason to build chemistry and shake off the rust but nothing beats in-game experience.

His high energy and toughness will be a new look for the first time in a while for the Wolverines at point guard. Buffalo is for sure a step up from Wayne State and Michigan basketball needs Jones to play a fantastic game in order to conceal a victory
