Hassan Haskins needs to be the bell cow

The Michigan football coaching staff has done a good job of mixing things up between Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum this season.

But with Corum getting hurt, Haskins had to carry the load against Indiana and he put together one of his best games with 168 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.

Haskins isn’t a home-run hitter and Corum and/or Donovan Edwards, who is also hurt, likely would have scored on his 62-yard run but who cares? Haskins is an ideal back for the Big Ten and as the games get more important, he needs to get more touches.

And he’s been getting them. Outside of the 14 carries last week, Haskins has gotten 19 attempts or more in four of the last five games and that should just continue.

Corum is outstanding but Haskins sets the tone. His physical style gets the team going and eventually, he wears people out.

With his vision, speed, strength, and athletic ability (hurdles), he finds a way to create explosive runs, and handing him the ball near the goal line has been effective all year.

Hopefully,  Corum and Edwards return next week, because you need more than one running back. At the same time though, Haskins should be getting the ball that much all the time and definitely down the stretch.
