Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from mundane win over Indiana
By Nick Popio
The defense stymied the Hoosiers
Mike Macdonald’s unit got back to its dominant ways by thwarting Nick Sheridan’s attack. The former Michigan football quarterback tried to put his young quarterback in winning situations, but the constant pressure of Taylor Upshaw, Aidan Hutchinson, and David Ojabo eventually caught up with the Hoosiers.
In only his second career start Donovan McCulley barely broke the 100 yardage mark on the night. Michigan’s defense never let them find any time to do much offensively. Their usually competent pass-catcher, Ty Fryfogle, was held without a grab after he torched the maize and blue a year ago with seven snags for almost 150 yards.
Indiana couldn’t even gain a first down until midway through the fourth quarter after not having converted one since the second period. In total, they were held to just 195 total yards. Michigan’s secondary completely constrained a once-potent passing offense that couldn’t get anything going to save their lives on the cold November evening in Ann Arbor.
