Michigan Football: Highlights, gut reactions from win over Indiana
Michigan football bounced back from last week’s loss thanks to a 29-7 win over Indiana and here are our gut reactions, as well as some highlights.
It wasn’t a perfect performance by Michigan football on Saturday night at the Big House but as ranked teams were upset all over the country, the Wolverines survived Week 10 and that’s what mattered.
Survived probably isn’t the right word, because to be honest, the outcome never really felt like it was in doubt. Hassan Haskins who set a career-high for rushing yards with 168 was certainly motivated and at times, he carried the offense.
Indiana did cut Michigan’s lead to 10-7 in the second quarter, but the Wolverines responded with a four-play 75-yard drive which ended with Cade McNamara connecting with Luke Schoonmaker for the first of two touchdowns.
The red-zone offense struggled in the second half and really, on a few different occasions as the Wolverines were held to three field goal attempts.
However, the defense was dominant. Michigan held Indiana under 200 yards of total offense and a David Ojabo forced fumble turned the tide in the Wolverines favor early on in the game.
Then, McNamara threw his second touchdown pass to Schoonmaker in the fourth quarter, putting U-M in front 22 and clinching Michigan’s eighth win.
Gut reactions from Michigan football’s win over Indiana
- Cade McNamara is the best quarterback on the team right now.
- Hassan Haskins needs more games with over 20 carries — he’s the best player on the offense right now.
- The offensive line was better but still struggles in short yardage situations.
- Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo are the best pass-rushing tandem in the Big Ten.
- Cornelius Johnson was due for a big night and went over 100. Don’t lose him in the Andrel Anthony hype.
- J.J. McCarthy needs these learning experiences.
- Run defense still worries me.
- Everything is on the table, especially after the MSU loss.
- This team will need to play better to beat Penn State.
- Still fun to enjoy a ho-hum win No. 8.
- Go Blue!
