Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from loss to Michigan State
Michigan is still on the right track
Many people will come away with the exact opposite from Saturday’s loss. I get it. It was another game lost under Jim Harbaugh that should have been won.
I realize he’s 2-13 against top-10 teams and 3-9 against Ohio State and Michigan State. But I also think this reset that Michigan is currently part of should be viewed separately.
That’s my viewpoint. This is the first year of that restart and while many expected or even hoped for a seven or eight-win season, Michigan won its first seven and has a good chance to reach 10.
Michigan was up 16 against a top-10 team on the road. Does it need to finish? Absolutely but it’s not time to fire Harbaugh.
Not even close.
The quarterback position is as healthy as it has ever been under Jim and Mike Macdonald will get things fixed. He’s going to make mistakes but will learn from them too.
There is tons of talent, frankly on both sides of the ball. Michigan could have used a shutdown corner in East Lansing, well guess what? Will Johnson is coming and Domani Jackson might join him. Plus five-star offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr.
And people really want Harbaugh gone? Did they forget last season just as many forgot how dark things were under Hoke and Rich Rodriguez?
Some on Twitter even compared Michigan to Nebraska, which shows how detached from reality some Michigan football fans have gotten.
Michigan has already won more games in 2021 than Nebraska has in any season since 2015. So give me a break and get realistic.
Was Saturday a disaster? Yes. At least the finish but there were plenty of positives and while I get that patience is wearing thin, I really believe the best is yet to come.
