Michigan Football: 5 things we learned in win over Northwestern
The run game is still elite
The offensive line was missing two starters against Northwestern in Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter. Hopefully, those guys can get back against Sparty, but all along Jim Harbaugh has expressed confidence in the depth, and those guys delivered on Saturday.
To be fair, Chuck Filiaga had some rough spots, especially an early sack but he recovered. On the opening drive of the third, leading 10-7, Michigan football faced a third-and-five and handed the ball to Blake Corum, who juked a guy and got the first.
You can’t blame Michigan for running, that’s the bread and butter, but good for the offensive line and Corum for executing, and the staff for trusting their best players.
Cade McNamara is a game manager at this point. It’s just what he is. But if the Wolverines are running for 300, it’s probably going to work out.
The question is will that formula work next week and beyond?
We’ll have to see but both Corum and Haskins are on pace to hit 1,000 yards this season and while they each offer something different, there’s no doubt they are Michigan’s best weapons on offense right now.
