1: The quarterback play needs to improve

Now, Michigan football doesn’t have a QB controversy like Oklahoma does on their hands, but the Wolverines have a good problem on their hands.

Now, looking at the rest of Michigan’s schedule, I have confidence Michigan can beat any remaining team on their schedule not named OSU with Cade McNamara at QB.

It kinda sucks that it seems like every big game Michigan has had this season has been on the road (besides at home against Washington) and will continue that pattern playing at MSU and at PSU, but Michigan has passed all of the tests so far beating Wisconsin away for the first time in 20 years, and beating a criminally underrated Nebraska team.

Anyways, despite Michigan being 6-0 and Cade McNamara playing solid, if unspectacular football, there have been clamors for his spot to be replaced with backup QB J.J. McCarthy.

This doesn’t really make any sense to me to be honest. I will admit, for Michigan to get to their ceiling of 9-10+ wins this season, they will need better QB play. That much is obvious. Cade

McNamara has left plenty of throws on the field, leaving a lot to be desired.
But at the same time, he’s only turned the ball over one time all season, and has only taken one sack all season.

It makes no sense to rush a freshman (a true freshman) with a capital F, out onto the field when the team is WINNING.

We understand the frustrations sometimes with Cade. He’s kinda hot and cold. But he isn’t turnover-prone like Shea Patterson was (especially in 2019), and he isn’t just terribly inaccurate with every pass (like Joe Milton was last “season”).

When the team has needed a spark or a drive to get back some momentum, he has led them down the field to crucial points.

Against these better teams though, like MSU and PSU, he will need to be even better like I said. He can’t keep missing the short to intermediate throws down the field against these better teams.

Those should be easy completions that are chain-movers or close to chain movers every time. Lastly, his deep ball needs to be a little more accurate. He’s proven he can hit a few of them (like against Wisconsin a few times, and also Nebraska with Sainristil, although Sainristil had to dive to make the catch) but generally, he’s left too much on the table with those.

No, I don’t, nor should I, expect him to hit on everything all the time, but he just needs to keep working on that in practice. There may come a time where he needs to hit on a crucial deep ball or pass and he can’t mess it up.
