2022-23 projected roster (Minus Houstan, Jones, Dickinson to NBA; Johns/Nunez to graduation)

PG: Frankie Collins/Dug McDaniel

SG: Zeb Jackson/Kobe Bufkin

SF: Jett Howard/Isaiah Barnes/Jace Howard/Gregg Glenn

PF: Moussa Diabate/Terrance Williams

C:  Tarris Reed/Will Tschetter/Terrance Williams

Assuming none of the five players listed above return, the Wolverines should still have one scholarship left and as you can see in the projected depth chart, a big from the transfer portal could be a real option down the road.

Michigan definitely has room for two bigs in this class and say the Wolverines were able to win the commitment of five-star Yohan Traore, who visited in September, they would have room.

However, that doesn’t seem likely, and while Michigan can try and pursue another big such as Ernest Udeh Jr. the Wolverines could wind up taking just four commitments.

Traore recently received a crystal ball to Memphis and Udeh has one to Kansas. Howard has tried to push for both but it’s not easy with Reed, a 6-foot-10 traditional big already in the class.

Eric Dailey is another name to watch. He’s a talented kid who could play professionally overseas. However, he has also shown some interest in college and talked about visiting Michigan.

He’s 6-foot-7 and doesn’t necessarily fill a need, however, his shooting ability is welcome on just about any roster and he’s not likely to stay for more than a season or two at the most.

So there are options going forward in the 2022 class but with two top-50 recruits and four consensus four-star recruits set to sign in November, Michigan basketball can afford to rest on its laurels and wait for the best player available in the portal.
