Michigan Football: 5 things to know about Nebraska
By Alex Hinton
Michigan football pulled off a statement win on the road last week at Wisconsin. The win moved the Wolverines up to No. 9 in the AP Top 25. Now with a top 10 ranking, the Wolverines will head to Nebraska with a target on their back. Here are five things to know about the Huskers
Rare Trip to Lincoln
When Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011, it was placed in the Legends Division with Michigan football. However, when Maryland and Rutgers joined in 2014, the Big Ten altered to the current East/West format. As a result, Michigan does not get to see much of Nebraska.
Saturday’s matchup will be only the fifth meeting between the two historic programs since Nebraska joined the Big Ten (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2018).
It will only be the second time Michigan has gone to Lincoln since 2011. The Wolverines will face a raucous environment, especially with it being at night. However, the Wolverines should get used to making the trip to Lincoln.
This season will mark the first of six straight that Michigan is scheduled to play Nebraska in the regular season.
Nebraska Has Salvaged its Season
The way Nebraska opened up its season on Week Zero, it would not have been surprising if Scott Frost was no longer the head coach by the time the Wolverines came to town.
The Huskers suffered an embarassing 30-22 loss to Illinois and its backup QB Artur Sitowski. Since then, the Huskers have gone 3-2 to get back to .500.
Nebraska has outscored Buffalo, Fordham, and Northwestern 136-17 in its three wins. Nebraska lost by 7 to rival Oklahoma and had an excellent chance to beat Michigan State.
Nebraska limited the Spartans to 14 total yards in the second half but fumbled in OT to set up the Spartans game-winning field goal. Nebraska will enter this one undefeated at home and playing with confidence. The Wolverines should expect a battle.
