Michigan Football: Safety target moves back decision date
Michigan football has been making a strong push for Damani Dent, a three-star safety, and he was supposed to decide soon…now he won’t. Here’s what it means.
One position that Michigan football has yet to address in the 2022 recruiting class is safety and the wait could continue after one target at the position has delayed his decision.
Damani Dent, who recently visited Ann Arbor and received a crystal ball projection to the Wolverines, was in Georgia this past weekend for a visit. Some other SEC programs have started to show interest too in the former Akron commit.
And as a result, after previously announcing an October 10th commitment date, Dent announced on Twitter Thursday that he was pushing back his announcement, although he didn’t say when.
Dent is ranked 1,529 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings and at one time, he was committed to a MAC school but he’s been rising since camping at Oregon and impressing the coaching staff there.
Soon after the Ducks offered, Michigan football joined the mix and following his visit, he was projected to U-M. However, his visit to Georgia was obviously a reason for concern for the safety out of Jacksonville, Florida.
The delay doesn’t necessarily mean that Michigan isn’t the favorite or the leader anymore, but it does mean that the Wolverines are going to have to hold off some elite SEC schools for a recruit from Florida and that’s not going to be easy.
We’ll see how hard those other schools push and when Dent is actually going to decide. It will probably depend on more visits but it’s definitely not a slam-dunk.
Dillon Tatum finally deciding
Just because we covered him for so long, former Michigan football target Dillon Tatum will be announcing his commitment on Sept. 29.
All of his crystal balls flipped recently to Michigan State and despite a recent push from Tennessee, Michigan State looks like the choice here.
Tatum was the top target at safety for a long time but now Dent is right there at the top of the board along with Amorion Walker, who could flip from Notre Dame and Jaiden Ausberry.
