Michigan Football: 3 Keys for Wolverines against Rutgers
By Josh LaFond
3. Punch Them in the Mouth
In the words of the great Mike Tyson: “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
Rutgers has vastly improved their program’s current situation and their future with the hire of Greg Schiano. The Chris Ash era was a disaster that nearly wrecked the program for life. This Schiano team is to be respected.
But at the same time, whatever plan they have will be quickly erased if Michigan comes out firing and figuratively punches them in the mouth.
Dialing up a deep pass on one of the first few plays of the game would be exactly the type of call the Scarlet Knights won’t be expecting. And that’s exactly what Michigan needs to do in order to get rolling early and keep the foot on the gas.
We know the Wolverines can ride the tandem of Blake Corum and Hassan Haskins. Donovan Edwards has even shown things as a true freshman.
But coming out swinging on their first possession would take the wind out of the sail against an upset-minded team that is tired of being the Big Ten East doormat.
That’s exactly why punching Rutgers in the mouth is our last key to victory.
