Michigan Basketball: What Gregg Glenn decision date means for U-M
A recent visitor for Michigan basketball, Gregg Glenn, has announced a decision date in 12 days. Here’s what it means for the Wolverines.
Michigan basketball‘s recruitment of Gregg Glenn has been a little hot and cold, but right now, it’s running warmer and it could possibly lead to a commitment.
Glenn, a 2022 recruit who is ranked 109th overall in the 247 composite rankings, was in Ann Arbor last weekend and visited alongside Jett Howard and Dug McDaniel.
Visits are a big sign of who the coaching staff is prioritizing and Glenn’s visit certainly means he’s on the board after some thought that the Wolverines had moved on earlier this summer.
Juwan Howard has a tight relationship with Glenn, who is a combo forward with playmaking ability and a questionable shot.
After just visiting Michigan basketball, Glenn announced on his Instagram that he would be making his commitment known in 12 days.
I’ll admit, it caught me a little off guard. While Michigan is definitely interested in Glenn, it feels like he’s lower on the board than some others who are visiting this weekend such as five-star Yohan Traore or even four-star Colin Smith.
Yet, the interest has to go both ways. Traore is obviously interested enough to take a visit to Michigan, which is a big deal since he’s only been to Texas Tech.
So for instance, the Traore visit goes well, but he’s not ready to make a decision yet, is Michigan really going to take the commitment of Glenn now?
Smith is also on the board and is a better shooter than Glenn and seems like a better fit. Eric Dailey is another name to watch as the top-40 prospect has said he wants to visit Michigan next month but could play overseas. He might be the best fit with his shooting ability.
Following his visit this weekend, it wouldn’t have shocked me to see Glenn wind up in Michigan’s 2022 class. But I didn’t expect it to happen in the next two weeks.
Iona, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and South Florida are also in the mix, at least according to the top five he released earlier this summer, but it seems clear that Michigan would be the leader, as long as it views Glenn as a take.
I predicted Glenn as part of Michigan’s 2022 class last spring, but he didn’t play great this summer and he’s fallen 34 spots in the composite since then.
He’s still a top-100 caliber player and that’s what you want if you’re Michigan basketball. He can play in the program for multiple years and if he can develop more consistency shooting the ball, a la Terrance Williams, he could be a really productive player.
My guess is that after this weekend’s visitors, Michigan will have a better idea of where it stands, and the board will be clearer as Glenn prepares to make his announcement.
