Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from commanding Washington win
By Nick Popio
The passing raid was non-existent and concerning.
Cade McNamara didn’t have to do much when it came to slinging his arm in the victory. In fact, he didn’t even hit 50% of his passes or 50 yards on the evening.
Not having its top receiver meant someone had to step up to ease the pressure off of McNamara for the passing offense. That failed to take shape and can turn into a serious issue if it’s not fixed down the line.
Cornelius Johnson was the leading receiver with a crucial third-down grab in the early moments of the showdown but went silent afterward.
This is something that Josh Gattis and the offense have got to work on if the receiving core wants to be a threat when they will certainly be called upon in dire circumstances.
It would be rather smart to use the upcoming Northers Illinois and Rutgers battles to fine-tune the passing attack.
Giving different guys the opportunity to become a go-to guy for McNamara is what this offense must put on the checklist for the rest of September.
Otherwise, it will inevitably come back and burn the Wolverines in Big Ten play.
