Michigan Football: 5 things we learned from win over Western Michigan
Areas of concern
Ronnie Bell’s injury is a huge concern and after he was seen in a wheelchair at the Big House on Saturday, it’s not looking good for a return.
That leaves a gigantic hole at the wide receiver. His leadership and mental toughness will be tough to replace, plus he was the man on third down. Henning has the potential to be that guy in the slot and Mike Sainristil can too.
This put the onus even more on Cornelius Johnson, All, Wilson, and Baldwin. All those guys will need to help fill in but someone needs to emerge and Henning could be the guy.
On defense, there are still question marks. Washington is a much better running team than Western Michigan and the Broncos averaged 3.9 per carry and got 126 total yards. Eleby was only sacked once and the defense didn’t create any turnovers.
Sacks and turnovers are the lifeblood of any good defense, so the Wolverines need more of those. The corners also showed some shaky ball skills, again, which could be costly against better teams, and also Josh Ross had issues in coverage.
There were a lot of positives but also questions that still need to be answered.
