The 2021 Michigan football team got off to a hot start as they defeated Western Michigan in a 47-14 blowout on Saturday at The Big House.

Heading into the Wolverines’ opening tilt against the Western Michigan Broncos, fans and national pundits alike weren’t sure what the product would look like. After an unimpressive first quarter, Michigan football imposed its will on its opponents.

Balance was the key on Saturday. The Wolverines totaled a solid 216 passing yards on just 17 attempts while racking up a staggering 366 yards rushing as well.

Any time you reach the 250 yards rushing plateau, you have an excellent shot to win the football game. Notre Dame in 2019 and last year’s opener against Minnesota come to mind.

With that being said, let’s jump right into the best and worst of Michigan football’s thrashing of the Broncos.

Studs

Blake Corum

Leading off the “Studs” category is the Wolverines’ breakout star, sophomore Blake Corum. The Virginia native put up an impressive 133 total yards and two touchdowns, including this one on the opening drive.

After (arguably) being underutilized last season, Josh Gattis got the speedster the ball early and often in Week 1, and that trend should continue into next week against a stout Washington defensive front.
