1. Start Fast

The title says it all. Michigan’s better teams during the history of the program have had deliberate offenses that start fast and finish strong. In addition to that, the last time these two teams faced off in 2018 we saw the Wolverines throttle the Broncos 49-3. Why was it such a blowout? Simply put, Michigan football started fast. The Wolverines scored 21 first-half points en route to the win.

Coming off last season where the Wolverines ranked 78th in total offense a fast start on offense is the type of energy that Jim Harbaugh is looking for to get the season started.

A team that had many, many moments of low morale, and little confidence not just on offense, but in all facets of the game in 2020 would do well to make sure this game isn’t even close if they can get a couple of scores on the board first.

Think, too, of the confidence a quick start in this game would give to the first-year starter Cade McNamara, a new offensive line that needs to gel, and a team that needs a morale boost. It’s the first game of the season and how it starts is a critical moment.

Starting fast is not only a key to Michigan football beating Western Michigan this Saturday, but it’s also a key to the Wolverines having a successful season.
