Domani Jackson on Michigan Football: ‘I can’t count them out’
One of Michigan football’s top recruiting targets in 2022 has been five-star Domani Jackson and even though he’s committed to USC, there’s still a shot.
There is plenty to be excited about as a Michigan football fan this week especially since the season is going to start Saturday against Western Michigan.
But as far as recruiting, things haven’t been going all that well. Dillon Tatum started trending away from Michigan football and towards Michigan State with all of his crystal ball projections last week. Five-star DT Walter Nolen also didn’t include Michigan in his top three last week.
While he also said that his recruitment wasn’t over and I believe him based on how it’s gone so far, the Wolverines don’t seem to have much chance of overtaking the others unless they really strengthen their NIL pitch which got Texas A&M off the mat and back into the mix.
Yet, Michigan has made some traction with USC commitment and five-star cornerback Domani Jackson, one of the top overall players in the 2022 class.
Michigan football making a push for Domani Jackson
Over the weekend, it was reported by EJ Holland of Rivals that Jackson would be visiting Michigan football and on Monday, Sam Spiegleman of Rivals published an interview with Jackson.
In this interview, Jackson says that he’s “110 percent” committed to USC. But if that were the case why visit Alabama and Michigan?
A flip doesn’t seem all that likely but who knows, maybe USC isn’t as good as people think and Michigan is better. Domani has always said Michigan was his dream school and here’s what he told Spiegleman in his latest interview:
"“Michigan is my dream school, so you know I can’t count them out. My family is from Ohio. My mom and sister are Ohio State fans, but my dad grew up a Michigan fan. I guess I followed my dad and we’ll be up in the Big House in two weeks. They’re pushing really hard me and it’s been great so far.”"
One visit isn’t necessarily going to mean that the Wolverines can flip Jackson. But if the team beats Washington, starts fast, and is better than expected, it would squash any questions about long-term stability — the biggest thing hindering Michigan’s recruiting right now.
Michigan is in the middle of a reboot. But it’s one the Wolverines can do on the run and if they can impress on the field, it will open some doors on the recruiting trail.
