Michigan football has work to do at wide receiver in the 2022 recruiting class and here are some targets to monitor.

One of the biggest needs facing Michigan football heading into the 2022 recruiting class was at wide receiver and right now, U-M isn’t in terrible shape with two verbal commitments.

One of those is from long-time target Tyler Morris who committed during the spring. The only issue with Morris is that he suffered a knee injury. However, he’s still ranked 106th overall in the 2022 class and once he gets healthy, he will get back to being an elite prospect.

Joining Morris on the list of Michigan football commitments in 2022 is wideout Tay’Shawn Trent, who is currently listed as a three-star prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings.

Yet, there have been rumblings that Trent may not be sticking with the 2022 class. There hasn’t been anything solid about that, more of a message board rumor, however, don’t be shocked if that happens down the road, which would leave just one verbal at the position.

That’s also probably why the Wolverines have been expanding the board at wide receiver lately. In addition to the possibility of Trent leaving the class, a top target, Dillon Bell, also chose Georgia over the Wolverines — another blow.

Other wide receiver targets in 2022

Michigan football fans are always interested in the four-star recruits and one at wide receiver that you need to know is Dane Key.

The Wolverines offered Key in June and the 6-foot-3, 170-pounder from Lexington, Kentucky, is ranked 233rd overall and has a pretty open recruitment. He visited South Carolina, Oregon, and Kentucky in June.

The Wildcats have the only crystal ball prediction for Key, however, Steve Clinkscale is an ace up the sleeve for Michigan football and U-M is listed as “Warm” on his 247 sports profile along with the programs listed above.

Key’s father did play for Kentucky, so that’s always something to consider. But he’s probably one of the top guys on the board and the Wolverines should make a strong push to land him.

Cody Hagen out of Utah isn’t listed as a four-star wide receiver but the three-star recruit is still one to track.

The Wolverines offered Hagen around the same time things went south with Bell. He’s 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and is 370th overall in the composite rankings. He’s actually a four-star according to 247 sports and here’s some video from him.

Hagen has a crystal ball projection to Stanford, which makes you feel good about the academic things that Michigan football can offer. He recently put out a top-four list and Michigan wasn’t on it, but he is intrigued by the Wolverines according to 247 sports.

Three-star wideout Quan Lee was also recently offered by Michigan football. He was once committed to Miami and UCF is among the contenders now, as well as the crystal ball leader.

Yet, Lee indicated that Michigan jumping in the mix could extend his timeline so unless he makes a decision soon, the Wolverines should have a chance to contend for his commitment too.

4 potential commitments in August. dark. Next

Sort of like a few other positions, Michigan is scrambling a bit and it wouldn’t hurt to land two of these three recruits. But U-M could really use at least one.
