Zak Zinter

People generally don’t care as much about offensive line buzz, however, when Michigan football is good, the offensive line is too.

The group struggled last season and part of it had to do with injuries. There wasn’t much cohesion and the unit really struggled to get a push, as well as protect the quarterback.

With the way it has recruited over the years, Michigan should be able to own the trenches most weeks and at least hold its own the rest.

A big key to that this season will be guys taking a step forward and one who absolutely needs to live up to his potential is 6-foot-6 guard/center, Zak Zinter.

Josh Gattis praised Zinter as the Wolverines’ best offensive lineman earlier this offseason. He seems like he will start the season at guard, but he’s also been a candidate at center. There has even been talk of him starting at both positions depending on the opponent.

Regardless of where he plays, Zinter needs to dominate. He could be the next early-round pick for the Wolverines up front and it would be spectacular for Michigan football if he started to live up to his vast potential this season.

Michigan’s offensive line could be a legitimate strength this season, but much of that depends on Zinter being the kind of player many believe he can be.
