Michigan football continues to expand the secondary board in the 2022 recruiting class with a new offer to an Arizona commitment on Thursday.

When former defensive coordinator Don Brown took a job at the Unversity of Arizona, Michigan football fans probably didn’t expect to be recruiting against him very much.

However, the Wolverines are now targeting one of the players he recruited to Arizona’s class in 2022 and that’s three-star defensive back, Zeke Berry.

Berry who committed to Arizona back on July 23rd, posted news of the Michigan football offer on his Twitter account.

Not surprisingly, Courtney Morgan played a role in this recruitment, which he has done with a number of prospects in the state of California. Berry is out of Concord and plays for De La Salle.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Berry is a prospect that can play cornerback or safety, as well as a wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball according to his 247 sports’ Brandon Huffman:

"“Can play cornerback, safety, running back, or receiver, but projects best to a defensive back in college. Can come downhill and end plays with big hits and open field tackling ability, but is able to run stride for stride with receivers and has tremendous ball skills, hips, and quick hands.”"

Berry is ranked as the No. 382 overall prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022, but 247’s own rankings have him listed much higher. In fact, he ranks 142nd overall in the top 247 and is also the 11th-ranked player in the state of California.

With three cornerback commitments, Michigan football has been seeking versatile defensive backs as the Wolverines don’t have any players committed at safety.

Dillon Tatum is the top target on the board, but the in-state recruit from West Bloomfield seems undecided and might end up choosing Michigan State over the Wolverines.

At the very least, with all the offers going out at safety, it doesn’t seem like Michigan is all that confident in landing Tatum, although it could just be due diligence.

The Wolverines have been expanding their board at multiple positions including at running back as Michigan recently offered a Wake Forrest commitment.

With 15 total commitments in 2022, the Wolverines are currently ranked 13th in the 2022 team rankings. However, they haven’t landed a pledge in over a month and there’s no clear indication when the drought could end, although three-star DT Tawfiq Thomas is announcing Saturday.
