Projecting when Michigan Football will be featured on College GameDay
By Alex Hinton
Michigan football has a bunch of big games in 2021 and here’s a look at which will feature the College GameDay crew.
Despite the rise of other Saturday pregame kickoff shows like FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, College GameDay is still the most popular pregame kickoff among college football fans.
One staple of the show is traveling to campuses every week for what is usually the top game of the day. It is also fun for fans and students with events on campus throughout the week.
This season, College GameDay will be back on the road for a full season, and these are the games that Michigan football is most likely to be featured on College GameDay this year.
Week 2 Washington September 11th
Washington-Michigan is not the top matchup on the week 2 slate. Ironically, that distinction goes to each school’s arch-rival, Oregon and Ohio State, who are also matching up on the same day.
However, Michigan’s game with the Huskies has already been announced as the primetime game on ABC at 7:30. Oregon-Ohio State will kick off at noon on FOX
Typically, College GameDay selects games that air on the ESPN family of networks, although they have made exceptions.
If they do select the Washington-Michigan game, they would save Kirk Herbstreit the hassle of traveling immediately after the show ends. There are also several storylines that they will be able to focus on.
Washington and Michigan football were linked during the 2016 season. The Huskies and Wolverines were among the contenders for the last spot in the College Football Playoff. The two programs were neck and neck in the eyes of the committee even after Michigan’s controversial loss to Ohio State.
Washington winning the PAC-12 Championship was ultimately the difference and Michigan fell to 6th in the rankings after Penn State won the Big Ten Championship.
The two long-time powers have also met in the Rose Bowl four times, splitting the matchups. The show often has a segment replaying classic highlights between the schools playing that week. Jim Harbaugh can often be a hot topic on ESPN as well.
If co-host and Michigan legend Desmond Howard has any sway in the meetings that week, College GameDay may be heading to Ann Arbor for week 2.
