Wolverines have some impressive freshmen

One of the most positive things coming out about Michigan’s fall camp has been the performance of the freshmen class.

Everyone knows about McCarthy and Donovan Edwards, who was a five-star running back according to 247 sports rankings, but both have lived up to the hype so far.

Sometimes kids don’t live up to the billing right away but both Edwards and McCarthy are expected to play this season. However, they aren’t the only ones.

Junior Colson, a favorite of mine in this class, has already worked his way into the two-deep at linebacker and Harbaugh even said he’s looked like a starting-caliber player. Here’s more of what Harbaugh said about his freshmen standouts:

"“There’s a lot of good,” Harbaugh said of the freshmen. “The guys that are playing the best, and we’ll probably start with the leaders of that class — J.J. McCarthy, [running back] Donovan Edward and [linebacker] Junior Colson, both in what they do and how they play. Those three are doing so many things right.”"

Those were three of Michigan football’s top-ranked players in the 2021 recruiting class and getting positive returns early is huge. Greg Crippen, a four-star offensive lineman is also on the two-deep according to Harbaugh and Andrel Anthony has also been turning heads.

Obviously, there are a lot of other talented recruits in the 2021 class and they will get their due in time, but so far, those five guys are standing out and that’s a good sign for the future.
