Michigan Football: Breaking down new 2022 offers at WR/DB
Michigan football is expanding the board at both defensive back and wide receiver and here’s a look at new offers that went out to a pair of 2022 recruits.
Recruiting has been an adventure for Michigan football in the 2022 class and with so much turnover on the coaching staff, it’s not that surprising.
With shaky results on the field last season also hindering the Wolverines recruiting efforts, Michigan football is having to expand its board and search for a few more diamonds in the rough.
We’ve seen the board expanding at defensive back and even running back in recent weeks, as Michigan football is aiming for some flips and honing in on some late evaluations.
And in the past few days, the Wolverines have extended some new offers at receiver and defensive back, technically, although one of the recruits can play both ways.
The first offer we’ll address went out last Friday to Quan Lee, a three-star wide receiver who was once committed to Miami. Lee is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and has been picking up momentum lately on the trail after some strong performances this summer.
Lee is ranked 689th overall in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is rated as the 96th-best receiver. He’s been trending with crystal ball projections to UCF and was supposed to decide soon, but now, according to what he told 247 sports, he might delay that decision after the Wolverines offered last Friday.
Some other big schools such as Georgia and Florida are also showing interest. So a delay could be about more than Michigan but Lee is an interesting prospect and we’ll see if U-M can get him on campus for a game this fall.
New DB offer in 2022
The Wolverines offered another intriguing athlete on Monday and that’s three-star Sam Mason out of California who reported the offer on Twitter.
Mason is unranked in the 247 sports composite rankings but is listed as a three-star recruit according to 247 sports own evaluations and he’s been picking up offers since Michigan State extended one back in April.
According to 247 sports, Mason is actually from the state of Michigan originally. The Spartans, along with Colorado and Oregon State are his biggest offers.
Mason is set to visit Colorado and the Beavers and although Michigan State appears interested in him as a wideout since he tagged Steve Clinkscale, that makes you believe Michigan is interested in him as a DB, which is what he told 247 sports on Sunday, prior to being offered by U-M.
"“I think it could happen and that would be huge for me,” Mason said. “I have a lot of interest in their school and would love to visit. I’ve been talking with Courtney Morgan and they like me as a defensive back so I’m just praying and leaving it up to the man above."
Sounds like Michigan football will get a visit and it’s possible that the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder could be a target at safety, although corner could be an option too, or even receiver depending on how things go with other targets.
