Michigan basketball doesn’t begin their 2021-22 season until early November. But for us die-hard college hoops fans, it’s never too early to look at the season and start making some predictions.

Before last season, I wrote a similar article in which I predicted who would lead Michigan basketball in all of the relevant stat categories. Before we dive into this year’s predictions, let’s revisit how good/bad my picks were from a year ago.

Points

My prediction: Franz Wagner 16.8 PPG

2020-21 leader: Hunter Dickinson 14.1 PPG

Assists

My prediction: Mike Smith 6.1 APG

2020-21 leader: Mike Smith 5.3 APG

Rebounds

My prediction: Hunter Dickinson 8.0 RPG

2020-21 leader: Hunter Dickinson 7.4 RPG

Steals

My prediction: Franz Wagner 1.5 SPG

2020-21 leader: Franz Wagner 1.3 SPG

Blocks

My prediction: Brandon Johns 1.3 BPG

2020-21 leader: Hunter Dickinson 1.4 BPG

Shooting Percentage

My prediction: Austin Davis

2020-21 leader: Austin Davis

Looking back at last season’s predictions, I’m pretty proud of how I did and am looking forward to how this year’s predictions go.

Going into the new season, Michigan basketball will be replacing three starters. Mike Smith, Franz Wagner, and Isaiah Livers are all gone. Fan favorite and elite sixth man Chaundee Brown is also gone along with backup center Austin Davis.

Michigan will have a lot of production to replace but they do bring in the top-ranked recruiting class in the country along with a really good transfer point guard in DeVante’ Jones.

Here is who I think will lead Michigan this upcoming season in all of the major stat categories.
