Beat Michigan State

I don’t want to come on here and write that Michigan must win 10 games or Harbaugh should be gone. Win totals aren’t everything and I think Michigan football has other goals that will better tell the whole story and beating Michigan State should be at the top of that list.

Michigan had no business losing to the Spartans last year but it did. And it wasn’t a fluke loss either. Michigan State looked like the better-coached team, the more prepared team, and the team that wanted to win more.

If you think talent is everything, this rivalry over the last decade should tell you that it’s not.

Michigan State is in full rebuild mode. As they enter year two of the Mel Tucker Era, they have gone through a serious roster overhaul and are not expected to be good this year. But as a Michigan fan reading this right now, after what you saw a season ago, can you honestly say you feel great about this game headed into the season?

Sure, Michigan should win. The Wolverines probably will win. But this game may end up being the most important game on Michigan’s schedule.

Most people don’t believe Michigan will compete for a Big Ten Title or keep it close with Ohio State. If Michigan football is looking at a potential 8-4 or 9-3 season in a transition year, The Michigan State game will be a must-win for Jim Harbaugh.

A 3-3 record against your rival that you are typically more talented than already doesn’t look great. If that moves to 3-4 after this season, fans will be restless.
