Michigan Football: Wolverines to host 5-star DT in September
By Brock Heilig
September 11th has the potential to be one of the biggest recruiting days in recent Michigan Football history.
Michigan football‘s non-conference schedule got a lot more interesting last week when the team announced that its September 11th matchup with Washington would be a ‘Maize Out’ game.
The week two duel was already scheduled for primetime, however, the ‘Maize Out’ will bring a new level of excitement to the game.
Senior linebacker Josh Ross had this to say regarding the ‘Maize Out’:
"“As we walk out the tunnel on September 11, seeing our fans decked out in all maize for the Washington game, would make us excited like no other! We are ready to get the season up and running in the next week and can’t wait to see all of our fans cheering us on in the fall. Go Blue!”"
This will be Michigan football’s first night game in front of a full Big House since a 45-14 drubbing over Notre Dame back in 2019.
Players, fans, coaches, and everyone in Ann Arbor will be ecstatic for this game, and Michigan will have some of its biggest recruiting targets in attendance for one of the biggest games of the year.
A pair of five-stars will be visiting
Class of 2022 five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen will headline the list of recruits to be in attendance for the matchup against Washington. Nolen is a 6-foot-4 300-pound mammoth defensive lineman and is the second-ranked player in the class.
Nolen named a top-five of Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama back on July 9th, and recently there has been some movement in his list of top schools. Nolen named a new top three and Michigan wasn’t in it.
Despite Michigan not being included in his current top three, Nolen has already altered his list of top schools. Texas A&M for example was absent from Nolen’s top five back in July, but schools like Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia, who were included in the top five, were left out of the top three.
This goes to show that no school is solidified as a top contender for Walter Nolen, and it will likely be a battle to the end. An electric atmosphere, along with a great NIL pitch, and a victory over Washington, will be a good first step in winning over Nolen from the south.
Nolen will be on campus the same weekend as five-star offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr., who has an interest in the Wolverines but likely wants to see some results in the fall before making a decision.
