Position battles

There are always going to be depth chart battles in fall camp, but Michigan football has some important ones to keep track of especially on the offensive line.

While quarterback gets much of the attention, as well as other positions such as wide receiver and cornerback, which are also deep and competitive — the offensive line is the battle to watch.

Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis said on Thursday that Zak Zinter might be the best offensive player on the Michigan football team. So where does he play this season?

I’d prefer that he start at center. That would allow Andrew Vastardis to be a backup and could cause some different shifts. Karsen Barnhart could start at right tackle and Andrew Stueber could play at right guard.

Barnhart did have to work through some injuries in the spring, but as with Zinter, he has a very bright future and it will be interesting if both find their way into the starting five.
